The Belagavi City Corporation has started a 3R centre at Bhagyanagar 5th Cross to enable residents to reduce, reuse, and recycle waste. These centres will be the city's waste collection and management hub. As part of the ‘Meri LiFE, Mera Swachh Shehar’ campaign, cities and States are to engage in a three-week-intensive online and on-ground campaign to spread awareness regarding the reduction, reuse, and recycling of waste.
The main aim is to
1. Reduce, Reuse, Recycle
2. Swachhata Ke Do Rang – Hara Geela Sookha Neela
3. Keeping cities clean and litter-free
4. Avoiding single-use plastic items
5. Creating ‘Wealth’ and art from waste items
6. Making eco-friendly lifestyle choices
This drive will be held from May 20 to June 5.
The RRR centres are now open to accept household waste, including old books, footwear, furniture, plastic, and clothes. Residents are encouraged to return materials such as e-waste, clothes, and household and office items made of metal and wood. As a token of appreciation, those who deposit reusable items will receive T-shirts or items made of paper or other recyclable materials.
The collected items will be processed to enable reuse and recycling of the materials, significantly reducing the load on the BCC’s solid waste management process. The implementation of RRR practices will contribute towards the conservation of natural resources, money, and energy.
Mayor Shobha Somanache inaugurated the first centre in Bhagyanagar 5th Cross, and more centres will be set up across the city. The BCC will launch a public awareness campaign about the 3Rs, promoting the Reduce, Reuse, Recycle habit by highlighting its benefits. Practising RRR contributes to making our cities clean and garbage-free, including contributing to the well-being of our environment.
