Coimbatore: The city corporation’s health wing seized around 1600 kgs of banned plastic in the first week of March. Officials said they were keeping a close vigil on the use of banned plastic in commercial areas.
A team led by sanitary inspector A Salaith is ensuring the implementation of the plastic ban. Over the past month, the team has been seizing between 300 kg and 400 kg of banned plastic items daily.
The civic body changed its approach to controlling banned plastic by focusing on wholesale traders and curbing their supply of plastic bags to roadside vendors.
