1.5 tonnes banned plastic items seized from godown in Indore

Indore: Indore Municipal Corporation (IMC) on Wednesday seized around 1.5 tonnes of substandard banned plastic items from a godown and sealed the place..

According to senior IMC officials, a team led by Zone 12 health officer Gautam Bhatiya and CSI Anil Sirsiya carried out a search at a godown of Agrawal Traders in Lohamandi area and found around 100 boxes of banned plastic items, including disposable glass and spoons of substandard quality. It took IMC to rope in four trucks to transport the seized material since they weighed be 1.5 tonnes before sealing the godown.

The new parameters and challenges introduced in toolkit of ‘Swachh Survekshan 2023’ have made the competition a bit more difficult, prompting the civic body to chalk out plans and identify areas where it lags, senior officials said adding IMC focus area is to improve air quality index, make the city free from use of single-used plastic, reclaiming water+ certification along with maintaining the work of sanitation Indore achieved in last year nationwide survey.

“A drive to seize substandard and banned plastic items and help the city getting rid of single-used plastic will continue in days to come,” mayor Pushyamitra Bhargav said.
