
Indore: On Wednesday, Indore Municipal Corporation (IMC) seized around 1.5 tonnes of substandard banned plastic items from a godown and sealed the place..
According to senior IMC officials, a team led by Zone 12 health officer Gautam Bhatiya and CSI Anil Sirsiya searched a godown of Agrawal Traders in the Lohamandi area and found around 100 boxes of banned plastic items, including disposable glass and spoons of substandard quality. IMC had to rope in four trucks to transport the seized material since it weighed 1.5 tonnes before sealing the godown.
The new parameters and challenges introduced in the toolkit of ‘Swachh Survekshan 2023’ have made the competition a bit more complex, prompting the civic body to chalk out plans and identify areas where it lags, senior officials said, adding IMC focus area to improve air quality index, make the city free from use of single-use plastic, reclaiming water+ certification along with maintaining the work of sanitation Indore achieved in last year nationwide survey.
“A drive to seize substandard and banned plastic items and help the city get rid of single-use plastic will continue in days to come,” Mayor Pushyamitra Bhargav said.
